Operating ornaments

Graduate exhibition, Reserchlab Konstfack 2017

The fear of femininity, feminine expression and what is identified as “weakness” among men is one of the biggest obstacles to gender equality. Femininity is considered as derogatory, often used by males to shame another person. On the other hand, femininity is celebrated by men, but only when it suits their agenda; when femininity pleases them, fixes and confirms their masculinity, and under no circumstances challenges it. The queer objects or bodies are the ones that don’t line up. It is something falling outside (or hiding within) the lines of norms. The norms and the lines produce symbols, linguistic expressions and rituals to identify with, to recognise, and to extract confirmation from. My intention is to elaborate on those categories, their symbols of power and their normative interpretations.
